"The eLearning courses were very helpful prior to the WebEx training. eLearning
definitely puts the user one step ahead!" — Amanda R., Fairview Range Regional Health
Systems
"eLearning is excellent! It should be standard for anyone who wants to come on-board
with the product." — Dr. Abbas, Dr. Asad Abbas
"Not only did [eLearning] make it fun, but in addition, it became the best manual
you can have. Most manuals do not include pictures, and if they do, it is up to
the book to give you a clear explanation. With eLearning you get the picture, you
get the explanation, and most of all you get the hands-on step-by-step simulation
with audio. It's like having a personal teacher that won't get upset if you ask
the same question a hundred times!" — Felix M., Sleep Medicine Associates, P.C.
"We have all gone through eLearning. It’s very beneficial because it introduces
you to areas and then reinforces it with Core Group Training and such." — Marcia
J., Spokane Allergy & Asthma Clinic
"eLearning is helpful and I think it is a wonderful tool. We use it all of the time.
The demos are great and we highly recommend it to our users." — Donna G. and Carrie
H., Dermatology Associates of San Antonio
"I think eLearning is very informative. If I have a question I will go into it to
find a simulation that will answer my question. I was trying to build a 'how to'
for my billing girls and I used the eLearning for it. eLearning is a good tool.”
— Lisa G., Ophthalmic Consultants
"I think it [eLearning] is a great tool and I am glad that we have it. I like that
we can go at our own speed, and we can go through the modules and either read what
it is saying or have the voice on to listen to it. I like that the modules are interactive,
and I like the testing at the end of the course. It helps you to know what you absorbed.
I think it is a great program." — Missy W., Eye Care Associates
"I use eLearning weekly. If I ever need to resource anything I go into it. After
the trainings I needed a resource, and eLearning was there as the resource. It is
still helpful. Just today I went in it to refresh what I learned at ICS training.
I know that if I can't remember something, I can go into eLearning and find what
I learned in training." — Brenda T., Allen S. Kent MD
Testimonials
eLearning is like having your own personal tutor. It has met our expectations and
then some. The biggest benefit to new customers is the self-paced learning style;
you can’t beat that with any book. In our office, the Core Team were not all computer
savvy. They said that without eLearning it would have been impossible to learn the
application as quickly as they did. Everyone considering purchasing NextGen should
also consider getting eLearning; it is the perfect marriage. I could not imagine
an office trying to change or upgrade their medical records software to NextGen
without the help of eLearning.

American Health Network, Inc. (AHN) has used eLearning exclusively for several years
now to train our new Corporate IT staff who have complete responsibility for implementation
and support of our 1,400 users. I ask new staff to use eLearning, and let them know
that if they feel they need additional one-on-one training from NextGen, we will
get it for them. I am pleased to say that no one has requested the additional training,
and that these five people have become NCPs. This has been a great way to get our
staff up to speed at a tremendous cost savings to AHN!

Case Studies
Case Study: Physician Incentives
St. Croix Regional Medical Center (SCRMC) used eLearning as an incentive for providers
to help them better prepare for the new system. We implemented NextGen using our
own group of expert staff in conjunction with NextGen’s staff. These designated
experts reviewed all of the eLearning courses for EPM and EHR, and attended the
Definition Workshop and Core Group Training classroom sessions. After they completed
their training, they were really prepared for training the rest of our staff and
for rolling out the NextGen products.
The expectations for the providers were set based on their practice. The eLearning
courses that fit their practice were required to be completed before they attended
Core Group Training. We calculated the required hours for each course that they
were expected to complete so they knew up front how much time they needed to dedicate
to learning NextGen. Once they completed their portion, a CME certificate was granted
through our CME partner, HealthPartners Institute for Medical Education in Minneapolis,
MN.
eLearning really helped us get the feel and flow of the applications and terminology.
After completing eLearning, the providers were better equipped for Core Group Training.
What a better way to get started on one of the biggest changes in the health industry!
We recommend eLearning to any organization that will be using NextGen. It is beneficial
and prepares all medical staff for onsite training by the NextGen trainers.

Case Study: Using eLearning for Internal Training
The Visiting Nurse Association of Central New Jersey charged their Manager of Clinical
Information Systems, Laurie Huryk, with training new employees in the use of the
NextGen EHR and EPM. "My plan was to put together an interactive presentation to
illustrate clinical and clerical processes," said Laurie, "and to provide examples
of both so that the employees could get a real feel for what it is like to chart
in the application in a controlled environment. Then I looked into NextGen’s eLearning
and found that they had already created what I intended and far beyond."
Laurie had the providers first work through their eLearning education plans independently,
and she provided them with a step-by-step guide to help them get started on the
application. In addition, she held classes utilizing the eLearning courses for the
nursing staff. This classroom setting allowed the nurses to ask questions specific
to their job duties while the material was being presented.
Once the physicians and nurses completed their education plans, she gave them three
provider scenarios from the best practices training documentation on the NextGen
website to do in their test environment. Then, the users took notes from their actual
patients and attempted to input the data into the KBM templates in their test environment.
Laurie also provided one-on-one training for those employees that required more
job-specific information. They looked at the eLearning courses, test environment,
and KBM templates together to figure out how to best integrate their work into the
current templates.
Laurie said, "Since we have incorporated eLearning into our orientation process,
our employees report feeling much more prepared when they start using the applications
live. I would recommend purchasing eLearning for all users as a first step in the
orientation process to the NextGen products."
